Hydrologist - Catastrophe Risk Modeling

Flood Hazard and Risk Analysis

Raymundo Rangel Parra is an Environmental risk modeller at RED. From 2015 to 2019 he was a doctoral student-researcher at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela (Spain) where developed hydrological analysis for water management in basin located in Spain and Mexico, carried out insitu river hydrometric data collection and geophysical prospecting data measurement for several projects, developed model ensemble (from remote sensing data, geostatistical methods, hydrological and management software) for hydrological simulations aimed to provide evidence of improvement for the current data on the official hydrological plan. From 2011 to 2014 he worked as environmental advisor and chemical analysis with a consortium of environmental laboratories in Mexico for validating water quality data, sampling, chemical analysis and hydrometric data from water bodies over the northwest of Mexico and Southwest of USA. He holds a Bachelor’s in environmental chemical engineer (2007), MSc (2011) in Environmental Systems and a PhD in hydrology and water management, with more than 11 years of experience working in water resources research and chemical testing in Mexico and Spain.

Raymundo is passionate about the environment, water and its relation with the society lifestyle and seeks to collaborate in the multidimensional objective of the water usage sustainability. Thanks to the collaboration with RED, Raymundo improved his knowledge about the analysis of flood impact and risk modelling. In his work, he employs several skills as Python, QGIS and most up-to-date techniques for data acquisition and processing, including satellite information and reanalysis products, to estimate the damages caused by natural disasters.
